On October 13, 2025, NED Alumni Tri-State (NEDATS) hosted a special Meet and Greet event in honor of Dr. Muhammad Tufail, Vice Chancellor of NED University of Engineering and Technology, at Edison Automart, New Jersey. The event was attended by current and past NEDATS board members and served as a platform to discuss ongoing collaborations, alumni engagement, and future initiatives to strengthen the university’s global presence.

During his address, Dr. Tufail expressed his heartfelt appreciation to NEDATS for their unwavering dedication and commitment to supporting various university programs. He acknowledged their continuous contributions toward scholarships, infrastructure improvements, and other student support initiatives, as well as their impactful efforts for the Tri-State alumni community. The evening highlighted the strong partnership between NED University and its alumni network, united in their mission to empower future generations of engineers and professionals.

We are delighted and proud to share that our own Anas Hashmi was the proud recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 19th  NED International Alumni Convention held in October- 2025 at Virginia/DC. This accolade is a true reflection of his remarkable leadership, dedication, and lifelong service to the NEDATS and NEDIAN NA Organization.

Mr. Hashmi’s journey has been truly inspiring, from graduating in Civil Engineering from NEDUET in 1994 to earning his Master of Science degree from the University of California, Berkeley in 1995. Over the years, he has held numerous pivotal leadership roles, including:

• President, NEDATS (2022–2025)
• Chairman, NEDIAN-NA (2021–2022)
• General Secretary, NEDATS (2019–2022)
• Treasurer, NEDIAN-NA (2019–2020)
• General Secretary, NEDIAN-NA (2013–2014)
• General Secretary, NEDATS (2010–2016)

As one of the founding members of NEDATS, Mr. Hashmi’s vision and dedication were instrumental in drafting the organization’s bylaws and laying the groundwork for what NEDATS stands for today: unity, growth, and the advancement of the NED alumni network across North America.

This award is not only a recognition of his outstanding contribution but also a celebration of his persistent and meaningful impact on both the organizations that he served with commitment and grace. 

The NEDATS board in particular and the NEDIANS in general extend their heartiest congratulations to Mr. Anas Hashmi on this well-deserved honor!

The NED Alumni Association hosted its annual Summer Picnic on August 17, 2025, at Holmdel Park, New Jersey. The event brought together around 120 alumni, families, and friends, creating a vibrant community atmosphere. Attendees enjoyed live BBQ with a variety of options, including chicken, beef, vegetarian dishes, and highlights such as jalebis. A friendly cricket match added excitement, with spontaneous teams showing teamwork and sportsmanship. Family-friendly activities included playground fun, tug of war, cornhole, and jumbo four-in-a-row, keeping children engaged while parents
socialized. A covered canopy ensured comfort, providing shade and protection throughout the day. The picnic successfully blended food, games, and fellowship, leaving participants with lasting memories. Special thanks were extended to organizers, volunteers, and all attendees for their contributions. The event reinforced alumni connections and set the stage for an even larger gathering next year.

NEDATS BOD Elections 2025 Announcement
Final List of Candidates

Dear NEDATS Members,
The NEDATS 2025 Election Commission has finalized the results and found the candidates listed below are the new office bearers of NEDATS Board of Directors for the term 2025-2028:

Election was held for nine positions of NEDATS Board of Directors; out of them eight positions will be filled by the above mentioned candidates. All the candidates are elected uncontested. One position has remained unoccupied due to the withdrawal. This position will be filled within 60 days from the start of the term as per the NEDATS bylaws.

The Election Commission has checked and verified the nomination forms and has determined that the following candidates are eligible, for the posts shown against their names:

May 9, 2025 is the last day to file a withdrawal of nomination.  The final list will be announced on May 16, 2025 based on the results of withdrawals.

We are delighted to share a recap of the highly successful 2025 Eid Gala and Scholarship Distribution event held on April 26th, 2024, at the Teaneck Marriott at Glenpointe. The event, organized by the NED Alumni Association of Tri State, aimed to celebrate Eid while recognizing and rewarding the academic achievements of deserving students through the distribution of scholarships.

With over 200 attendees, the event attracted a diverse audience, including students, parents, educators, community leaders and representatives from sponsoring organizations and academic institutions.

The highlight of the event was the scholarship awards ceremony, where 12 merit-based scholarships were presented to deserving students. Each award was distributed by our honorary guests, including Eric Macfarlane, P.E First Deputy Commissioner of the NYC Department of Design & Construction (NYCDDC), Rizwan Baig, P.E Chief Engineer of the Port Authority of NY & NJ, Thomas Wynne, P.E Deputy Commissioner of Infrastructure at NYCDDC and Paul Schwartz, P.E Deputy Commissioner of Bridges at NYC Department of Transportation.

Additionally, Mr. Badar Bhatti (EE ’76) was honored with the “Lifetime Achievement Award” for his significant contributions NEDATS and NED Alumni Community. His dedication, passion and exceptional leadership not only shows his outstanding efforts but also inspires others to follow his footsteps and continue the important work of building stronger, more vibrant communities.

The event also featured a keynote address by Dr. Samra Zafar, renowned speaker, and a captivating performance by Shiraz Uppal, entertaining audiences of all ages.

Overall, the 2025 Eid Gala and Scholarship Distribution Function was a meaningful and impactful event, bringing together the community to celebrate Eid while providing crucial support to deserving students through scholarships.

As you all know that NEDATS is in the process of holding elections for its Board of Directors and per the announcement made by NEDATS President on March 31, 2025 members who are in Good Standing on April 10, 2025 and will remain in Good Standing until end of June, 2025 are eligible to run for an office and/or vote as well.

Attached please find the nomination papers for those who are interested in running for an office in the next term i.e. 2025-2028. If you are interested, please complete the attached forms and email an electronic copy of the forms to us at ec@nedats.org. The deadline for submitting the nomination papers is Sunday April 27, 2025. All nominations filed after the deadline will NOT be included in the election process.

As stated above, only Good Standing members as of April 10, 2025 shall be eligible in the election process and those are as follows:

++: not eligible for elections but can vote.
**: paid membership expiring in April; lose eligibility if membership is not renewed before expiration.
